Position Description:

The City of Irvine seeks a highly organized and experienced individual to support the Community Services Department's Urban Agriculture program at the Orange County Great Park. This program educates visitors about home gardening, healthy eating choices and sustainable landscaping through gardening workshops, the Farmer's Market, the Farm and Food Lab and other initiatives.

The Part-Time Community Services Leader III will oversee the Farm and Food Lab and agriculture sites at the Orange County Great Park, facilitate the procurement of supplies and contract services, lead classes or programs, coordinate volunteer efforts and program participants, prepare and process program records and documents, and provide high quality customer service. This is an Extended Part-Time position with a minimum schedule requirement of 30 hours per week. Shifts are scheduled during normal business hours, and weekends as necessary. Frequent Saturday and Sunday availability is required.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:   

  • Completion of two years of college or university level work in Public Administration, Horticulture, Recreation, Environmental Science or related field and two years of related work experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.  
  • Ability to interface directly and cooperatively with supervisors, co-workers, contract workers, program participants, volunteers, vendors and the general public. 
  • Excellent customer service skills, verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Be self-directed, working independently with minimal supervision.  
  • Ability to lean, stoop, bend, push, pull, drag, lift and/or carry equipment/supplies (weighing up to 50 lbs.) while performing gardening and site maintenance job duties in an outdoor environment with exposure to various degrees of dirt, dust and insects.  
  • Clean DMV driving record. Class B license may be required.
Desired Experience: 
  • Experience with landscape, agriculture, horticulture and farming is desired but not necessary. Forklift training/experience is desired.
