We are a nonprofit organization seeking to help those individuals in the lower Florida Keys struggling in an uncertain economic environment. Most of our clients are the working poor but they could just as easily be homeless and by providing services such as food, and housing and utility assistance we see our primary mission as homeless prevention. In just six short years we have developed into one of the largest food pantries in all of South Florida with three refrigerated trucks scouring our community for donated food seven days per week.
Position Description:
The Star of the Sea Outreach Mission (SOS) is excited to announce the availability of ositions located in our Key West office, to support local efforts to fight hunger. We are looking to replace a VISTA member who was scheduled to serve until June 2015 but resigned to return home for personal reasons. Successful candidates will be provided housing and work with another Americorps member will to help build capacity of SOS feeding programs and contribute to community efforts to fight hunger.
You would work with SOS and community leaders to:
- Capacity Building: help ensure that the agencies serving low income individuals and the homeless are able to expand their capacity to meet the increasing need in our community.
- Build partnerships and infrastructure to make sure that we can expand in a sustainable way. You will be engaged in a variety of activities that focus on: volunteer coordination, capacity building, design coordination, partnership building, and faith based organization engagement.
- Increase strategic partnerships: Support community engagement efforts through organizing meetings and events to educate community and discuss new initiatives and partnerships to support local hunger relief efforts.
- Develop social media and web prescence.
Members receive a living allowance, health benefits, training, and a $5,550 college education award on thecompletion of their year of service.
Qualifications:
- Experience and/or interest in community collaboration and organizing
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability tomanage project deadlines
- Ability to take initiative to implement projects and pursue goals
- Transportation (Scooter)
