Job responsibilities include:
- Work with education staff to develop new food and farm programs that more fully utilize our farm resources, especially including hands-on experiences in our farm fields.
- Facilitate food and farm programs by acting as liaison with education staff and farmers to schedule appropriate programming and field-based activities for a wide range of age groups and abilities.
- Plan and deliver educational programming with youth, family, and adult groups in the field and in classroom/kitchen-based programs
- Help develop communications protocols and meet regularly with education and farm staff to facilitate communications.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the day to day operations for the purpose of supporting education programs, attend weekly crops staff meetings and spend up to 6 hours per week working in the crop fields
- Develop and market value added products such as pesto, pickles, flowers, jams, and soap for education programs and general farm sales.
- Knowledge of/interest in agriculture, natural sciences, environmental education, food preparation/cooking, and experiential teaching and learning
- Experience teaching children, families, and adults in a variety of settings, including experience working on an educational farm and/or garden program
- Entrepreneurial and creative combined with strong project management skills
- Must be a skilled and effective communicator (oral, written, visual) and comfortable speaking in front of groups of all ages and sizes
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team
- Bachelor’s degree in education, biology, earth science, agriculture, environmental studies, or equivalent, and a minimum of 2 years of experience in conducting educational programs; or Master’s degree in education, biology, earth science, agriculture, environmental studies, or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds and be able to respond effectively to emergencies. Must be trained or willing to be trained in CPR/FA. Must have a valid driver’s license and be available to work occasional weekends and evenings.
- Requires successful completion of a CORI and SORI.
Additional Comments: This is a part-time, seasonal position from April through September/October, with weekly hours varying with the programming schedule, as agreed upon with supervisor
