- Job Type Internship/Apprentice
Intern can work from anywhere, at any time of day or night, up to roughly 10 hours, one week a month.
Specific duties:
- Be an extra set of eyes. Every story will have already been edited (for content and voice) and copyedited (for spelling and grammar) so we aren’t primarily looking for the punctuation police, but if you catch an awkward sentence or an extra L in “Colicchio,” you get extra credit.
- Draft titles, subheads, captions, and cover teasers. This is the main assignment. Once you’ve read each assigned story, suggest clear-but-clever turns of phrase that entice people paging through the issue to stop and read. That’s what it’s all about.
- Sum it up. Once the issue is done, draft a few sentences for the eblast announcing the new issue to readers, inspiring them to pick up a copy or download our free digital version.
- Supersize it: What, you want more? Okay if you wish, you might also have the pleasure of helping review pitches, brainstorming future story ideas, contributing to our blog, or possibly taking on paid writing assignments for print. But the above is the starting point. Let’s talk.
