Job description
The Events Department at Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan is looking to fill a position to assist with the planning and execution of our large scale events in both Brooklyn and Manhattan.
The intern should be available to work 10-15 hours a week remotely from home with bi-monthly to monthly in-person meetings with the Events Manager.
Compensation varies depending on qualifications and there is potential to move up to a permanent paid position in the future (and attend some incredible events for free).
The intern will have the opportunity to work with leaders in the culinary world while gaining hands-on experience in event production and marketing.
The internship provides flexibility and is perfect for an individual who is a self-starter and able to work independently and within a team.
The objective of the internship is to gain experience in the various aspects of event production, execution and marketing.
Skills and Background Required Include:
Self-motivated - The intern will work remotely, so the ability to manage time effectively is vital (ie able to schedule their day in order to complete the tasks required for the internship)
Social media savvy - The intern will regularly be required to help promote our events through social media with our marketing team (ie menu leaks for events, announcements of ticket availability, general buzz, live tweeting from events)
Organized - The intern will help with the organization of Google documents which are the hub of our event production. They will be responsible for updating menu offerings and restaurant contacts. They will assist in the follow up with event vendors to ensure that all required information is received in a timely fashion.
Technologically savvy - The intern will be responsible for updating our online calendar with local event listings and assisting with the ticket page setup for Edible-produced events.
Plugged In - The intern should be familiar with the NYC food scene and the mission of Edible (ie the intern will research local food events for partnership opportunities that coincide with the mission of Edible and vendors who might make a good fit for our events).
Professional - As a representative of Edible, the intern should be a professional who is able to interact cordially with our vendors, volunteers and other staff members.
Leadership capabilities - The intern will be responsible for spearheading Eat Drink Local week, Edible's answer to a restaurant week. This will involve corresponding with participants from shops to restaurants to ensure that menus and shop discounts are received in a timely manner; promoting the offerings via social media; collaborating with our online editor on blog posts dedicated to EDL and updating our online Guide with the menu and shop offerings. Coordination skills - The intern will be responsible for recruiting volunteers to assist with event execution. The intern will delegate tasks and manage volunteers on the day of the event. The intern should be able to think quick on their feet. The intern will also assist with vendor load in at events (showing the vendors where they will be situated and ensuring that all vendors are accounted for and on-time). The intern will also assist with the coordination of volunteers at non-Edible events (ie events where Edible has a table to distribute magazines and engage new subscribers).
Attention to detail; interest in event planning; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to follow-through and meet deadlines are also requirements.
***Candidate should be enrolled in college or a recent graduate. They must be 21 years of age (as many of our events involve alcohol).
